DRY NEEDLING

Dry Needling is a treatment performed by a skilled, trained health professional, as a technique used for patients with musculoskeletal complaints. This can include neck pain, shoulder pain, hip pain, low back pain, knee pain, elbow pain, and wrist pain to name a few. It is used to treat muscular trigger points for management of neuromuscular pain, restricted range of motion, chronic pain, and/or referred pain. The goal is to reduce pain levels, inactivate these trigger points, alter and rebuild good muscle memory, restore range of motion and function of the affected joint.

Dry Needling differs from Acupuncture in a multitude of ways. Acupuncture is based on Eastern medicine and Dry Needling is more of a Western medicine approach. Dry Needling although is similar in the idea that it uses the same type of needle, very thin, but instead of finding points along meridians and letting them sit for 20-40 minutes, the needles are targeting trigger points and may be moved around to cause a twitch response in the muscle with the goal to release the active trigger point.

Dry Needling is an extremely low risk healthcare option. Single-use, disposable needles only are used at 122 Chiropractic so risk of infection is extremely minimal. We do ask that you inform us before beginning acupuncture treatment with us if any of the following pertain to you: if you have a bleeding disorder, currently on blood thinner medications, or if you are pregnant.
